If you dream of having a career that enables you to travel, this info-packed session is not to be missed. Come meet two speakers who have been there and done that—and advised others on how they can do the same. Learn first-hand what kind of jobs are out there and how to get them.

Whether you’re still in school, recently graduated or out in the workforce, if you are interested in taking your work into the international sphere, this session is for you. These are professionals who have worked internationally in a range of fields, and have advised others on how to do the same.  They will share their insights on how you can set yourself up for an international career.

Maria Elena Ordonez Ramos

Maria Elena Ordonez Ramos

Maria Elena Ordonez Ramos worked for 20 years with Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF), in 10 different countries: Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala, México, Colombia, Brazil, Angola, Zimbabwe, Chad and Mozambique as a Human resources coordinator and financial coordinator, responding to emergencies like hurricanes, earthquakes, cholera epidemics, HIV/TB programming and armed conflicts. In Canada, Maria Elena worked in the MSF Montreal office as a field human resources officer which included recruitment, placement and career management for Canadian humanitarian workers working with MSF around the world.

Andréanne Martel

Andréanne Martel

Andréanne Martel is a Collaborative research Program Officer at the Canadian Council for International Co-operation (CCIC) in Ottawa. Prior to joining CCIC, she held a Research Award position in the Policy and Evaluation division at the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), where she conducted research on access to justice for survivors of violence in India. Andréanne was the coordinator of a research centre on international co-operation at UQAM. In recent years, she has worked as a consultant for several humanitarian organizations, including the Red Cross and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), to evaluate their reconstruction program in Haiti following the January 2010 earthquake. Andréanne has also worked as a volunteer in West Africa and South Asia.

Richard Zereik

Richard Zereik

Richard Zereik has over 24 years of international experience. He has held senior management positions in organizations concerned with humanitarian emergencies, international, youth and community development and Higher education, including 13 years with Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF), three years at Concordia University and eight years at McGill University.

Richard is currently a member in the Committee of Experts in Risk Management and Security of the Observatoire canadien sur les crises et l’action humanitaires (OCCAH), a psychosocial support care unit focal point for MSF, and an international experiences Coach, Advisor & Mentor. He sits on the International Association of Student Affairs and Services’ (IASAS) Board of Management and is their Regional Coordinator for Canada. He is a member of the Advisory Committees of the Salon1861 and of La Présence QI (Quartier de l’innovation) and is a board member of the Impact Hub Montreal. He has worked in many countries around the world, including Guyana, Armenia, Sierra Leone, Ivory Coast, Sudan (Darfur), Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, Western Kenya, Switzerland and the Netherlands.

Éléonore Durocher-Bergeron

Éléonore Durocher-Bergeron

Éléonore is a hybridpreneur—an independent consultant for Autrement ici, but also currently head of school and community development at Academos, a mobile mentoring application to help young people find employment. A graduate of the University of Quebec in Montreal in public relations, the University of Montreal in international cooperation and the Concordia University in community development, Éléonore has been interested in the employability of young people for ten years, keeping abreast of the latest trends in human resources. In addition to various experiences as a volunteer aid worker in West Africa, she was also coordinator of the International Youth Internship Program (ISYP) of Global Affairs Canada for four years, and previously an advisor to Employment- Quebec, responsible for student employment files. For the past few years, she has been developing and leading training courses for adults on various themes related to human relations in an intercultural context (conflict management, facilitation technique, organizational development, etc.).
